What are those tiny worm-looking things in the the soil I use in my indoor garden, can they hurt my plants?
Saturday, April 30th, 2011I noticed after a week or so of planting seeds and they sprout, these microscopic white things start crawling and jumping around in the soil. They kind of freak me out, and I was wondering what they were, what they do, and what can I use to get rid of them? I used a dish soap solution that a friend recommended but that killed my plants as well as the critters.

Is Preen safe to use in vegetable gardens?
Saturday, April 30th, 2011I messed up – do I need to move my vegetable garden?
Friday, April 29th, 2011I am in Memphis, Zone 7. I planted a "Square Foot Garden" (raised bed garden) full of vegetables at my new home. Bell peppers, peas, beans, tomatoes, watermelon, squash, herbs, etc. I thought the spot I chose was full sun. Not sure how I messed this up… It appears my beds are getting only about 3 hours of sun a day, from noon to 3:00. Do I need to move the beds? It won’t be easy, but it is possible before the plants get too big. To think I dug up all that grass underneath them. Sigh. Thank you!

Designing an indoor garden?
Thursday, April 28th, 2011I am designing an indoor garden. It will be located in a glass sunroom/conservatory. Unfortunately, most of the books about indoor gardening are about growing plants in pots. I want to create an ACTUAL indoor garden — lavender, jasmine, ferns, irises — planted in soil beds.
What I want to know is:
1. Whether there are any books or websites on the subject.
2. Whether the plants I’ve mentioned would grow in good indoor conditions, and any other plant suggestions (preferably plants with flowers!)

Thursday, April 28th, 2011Gardening-What flower and vegetable seeds are best to start indoors first?
Wednesday, April 27th, 2011SPRING is in the air, and I’m getting inspired! My husband got me a little heated/indoor green house, and I want to start growing some seeds. What flowers and fruits/vegetables are easy to start from seed?
I am interested in attracting hummingbirds and butterflies to my yard, so I try to plant as many flowers that attract them.
Also,we have a lot of critters living on /around our property. I might have a vegetable container garden.-so i can bring the plants in at night. What fruits/vegetables grow well in containers?
Thanks for your help! Happy gardening!
