Dogs in Aparments….?

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

So. I am aware that I will not get a dog for a long time, because I am only 15 and already have 3 cats, unless by some miracle my mother says yes (haha, not going to happen x3), but IF I were to get a dog in my current sitiuation… What kind of dogs do well in apartments? It’s on the 3rd floor, and Germany doesn’t have air conditioning, so don’t suggest a dog like a Newfoundland because they really dislike heat, and it gets hot in the summer. I need a dog that would do well with cats, and obviously one that wouldn’t bark too much. Yes, pets are allowed in the apartment, and we own it so that wouldn’t be a problem. We have a balcony, which is pretty big, and a HUGE garden below, so I could take it out there at night just to poop real quick. The dog would also be alone from 7:30 to 1:30 most days, but some days I come home early because school is shorter. I’m also not interested in some dog that you carry around like a fashion accessory and dress up. Not only is it wrong, but I enjoy going for longer walks in the forest, and bigger dogs would make that easier. Also, if you’re just going to tell me ‘OMG YOU MEAN HORRIBLE PERSON YOUR DOG CAN’T BE ALONE,’ save it for someone who cares about your opinion. Dogs can be prefectly happy alone, especially if I can get 2 dogs at the same time like I intend to. Anyways, thanks in advance for the advice ^^ Telling me I’m a horrible person for wanting a dog is pointless and a waste of time. You telling me I shouldn’t have a dog does nothing. You should be off going around trying to rescue dogs from REAL abusive homes.
I knew that would come across wrong. I care about your opinion if you’re actually trying to help. But if you’re one of those people who says ‘well dogs shouldn’t be alone you horrible person go throw yourself off a cliff,’ then I don’t care because your answer is not only stupid, but won’t change a thing ._.;
Haha person with no picture, you’re so funny. TONS of people have dogs in apartments? How ’bout NYC, where most people live in apartments? Are you honestly trying to say that EVERYONE who lives in an apartment is not suited to be a dog owner?

      Very,very important questions……………………………………..?

      Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

Hey, I live in the Uk have two cats one dog and one hamster. I was wondering if you could answer some of my questions? Thanks

.I looked at pets at home website and searched for stuff for my hamster, anyways my hamster is mixed russian and dwarf! There is one section saying things for dwarf hamsters or another saying things for hamsters which should I choose and why? Thanks

.I need good websites for accessories for my dog which I can order and buy online, they have to be in the Uk though.

. Is it ok if your dog sleeps outside in your back garden in the wendy house, with a kennel inside it and all covers and stuff?

. Is there any cheap cool vast hamster cages? for sale on websites cheap please and also in the Uk?

. I love my cats dearly and have no questions for them.

Is my town too small for a pet store?

        Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

        Hi,

My town has approx. 1600 people living there, and there’s no pet store. I’m thinking of opening one, in fact I’ve already requested a business license for a pet and garden supply store. There are about 5 local groceries who sell basic pet food for cats & dogs: Pedigree & Whiskas.

My store would offer more of a variety of pet supplies & food as well as Birds & Freshwater Aquarium Fish, and well, garden supplies & decor.

Is my working population large enough? You think?

        Thanks!

My dog is pissing me off. Help!!!?

        Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

I have a year old lab/greyhound mix that has an enormously large backyard, lots of soft and hard chew toys and 3 friends to play with (one dog, two cats). He won’t stop chewing my blankets, garden decor and other things. He also won’t stop digging. And it’s not that it’s hot or that there are animals we need to worry about. It is totally pissing me off and I have no idea how to stop it. I have tried putting him on a lead and he just digs holes around him bc he’s pissed off. We have tried giving him the run of the backyard with a warm place to go to sleep in. We have tried many things. HELP!!!
I have tried keeping him in the house but then he chews on blankets, gets in the trash.

I would love to take him to obedience training except that he know how to sit, walk on a leash, and all the fun tricks they learn at training.

What kind of punishment is acceptable?
I appreciate the feedback. To those whom think I shouldn’t own dogs…. I absolutely love my dogs however I feel a little overwhelmed and that is why I have asked for suggestions. Nicole I don’t appreciate your comments as I love my dog and I spend as much time with him as I do my toddler. He is very well taken care of it is just when I am at work that these things happen. Then I come home having to clean up after his mess or repair blankets because he got bored during the day.

How can I protect my rabbit from cats?

        Thursday, November 4th, 2010

I’m getting a rabbit, but there are lots of cats in our area who come into our garden. Would a hutch like this: http://www.petsathome.com/shop/double-tier-rabbit-hutch-and-accessory-kit-32751 protect a rabbit from cats?

Kitten urinating in indoor garden, ideas to stop this?

        Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

I am asking this question for my mother. Our family cat of 16 years had to be put to sleep a few months ago and in her old age she started not wanting to brave the cold outside to toilet and instead was using the indoor garden. Now 3 or 4 months later mum has got a new kitten for the family but she is trying to use the same spot inside as our old cat. I read that cats do this because the smell of previous animals is really strong to them even though it has been cleaned. So Mum wants to stop this behavior ASAP. The kitten is really good and goes outside, she has a cat door and is really good about using it and gets lots and lots of praise when she goes outside, but she still tries to use the indoor garden as well. It is full of alive plants and is a big stone planter box so it can’t be removed. Any ideas on how to stop this or anything we can spray around live plants that will deter kitty? Oh one more thing, mum has tried one thing that you sprinkle around, not sure of the name of it I think its some sort of orange crystals but its not helping, and she has tried putting pebbles on top of the dirt but kitty still just tries to dig the pebbles out of the way to get to the dirt.

How do you keep cats out of your indoor box garden?

        Sunday, September 12th, 2010

The cats want to use the kids’ box garden for a litter box. Is there a way to keep the cats out besides putting sticks in the soil? We don’t have a place to put the box where the cats can’t get to it.

How can I keep my cats from using my vegetable garden as a litter box??

        Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

It’s a boxed in area..actually there are two. I just took 2 wheelbarrels full of cat poop out and am now ready to plant my vegetable garden.

Someone suggested wet newspaper surrounding each plant..but my cats are pretty smart. They might just think I’ve provided them something to read while they do their business.

I’m leaning more towards some kind of chicken wire structure that has a removable top to allow for the plant growth.

Any detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated
