My home is a pale green, what else can I do?

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

The color of my walls are a pale cucumber green. Perhaps a little darker than the lamp in this pic:

or the "Spirited Green" in this swatch:

I need more ideas for accessories. Tell me what you think of this accessory (for the bathroom). A small fish bowl vase, clear pebbles mixed with darker green. Perhaps a white/green candle inside…..

What colors work best? What should I do to my outdoor garden? How can I make my home look bigger? Links, please.

Indoor vegetable garden?

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

Thanks to anyone willing to take the time to answer. I do not have a lot of gardening experience, so please be kind.
:)

I am starting my 2nd attempt at an outdoor garden, but thought it would be nice to have some veggies grow in my house… perhaps even after the outdoor season ends.

1.) What kind of vegetables can be grown indoors?

2.) How deep of soil should I have to grow veggies?

3.) Do I need fancy gardening lights, or is sunlight through the window enough?

4.) If I do need fancy lights, would the cost of the lights and the electricity come out to a lot more than buying veggies from the store?

5.) How much light do plants need in a day.

6.) If I keep them in my porch instead of in a heated room, could they die when it is cold?
______
Seeds I have so far: bell peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, onions, scallions, broccoli, spinach, yellow squash, carrots, cucumber, brussels sprouts, banana peppers…

Thanks for answering any of these you may know.

Vegetable Gardening?

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Hi,
Im starting a new vegie garden from scratch and wondered if anyone could give me any tips on improving the soil, which vegies should go where and ways to get the best possible results.

The patch consists of 3 long rectangular beds. The soil is very sandy, virtually no rocks at all, the soil is a dark grey/blackish colour in some parts and then a redish brown in other parts. At the momment all ive done is dug the soil through and put in some sheep and cow manure.

The vegies im going to grow are pretty much all the basics; lettuce, carrots, corn, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, beans, peas, pumpkin, watermelon, cucumber etc.
thanks
Forgot to mention that the top bed has shade from about midday on and the 2nd one from has some around 2-3pm-> the 3rd one is full sun.

Vegetable Gardening Question?

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

I am setting up a patch of land in my backyard for gardening. Right now I am going to be planting sunflowers, sweet corn, cucumber, radishes and green onions.

On the back of a few of the seed packets it says something about planting the seeds on a hill.

Is that I think it means? Like you make a row and a little hill all the way down the row?
Thanks all! Wow, I am so sun burnt and sore from tilling the ground. I will make sure to make little hills though!!
