Indoor herb garden help?

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

I am completely new to gardening so I really have no clue about how to plant or care for plants. I am wanting to start an indoor herb garden, I just don’t know where to start. I went to my local Saturday market and got an idea on which herbs I’d like, mostly for culinary purposes since I like to cook. So if I buy the already planted and partially grown herbs where do I go from there? Best potting soil, planters, fertilizers? What is the best combination of herbs to grow all together? I’ve done a lot of reading online but every site has told me different things so I am just confused. I need all the advice I can get, thanks 🙂

        Starting an indoor herb garden?

        Friday, April 22nd, 2011

I would like to attempt an indoor year-round herb garden. I am interested in mints and lavender for teas and I would like some others for cooking. What would be some good ones for beginners? Also what are some good resources to turn to in regards to indoor herb garden/organic gardening?

Question about indoor herb garden light bulbs?

          Monday, October 11th, 2010

so i want to have a small indoor herb garden and theres a place in my house that looks like it would be perfect and theres a place for a lightbulb above it….do they make a regular looking light bulb that is like sunlight for plants…i thought i heard of that before but idk. btw the light bulb would be about 2 1/2 feet away from the herbs. Is that ok? and if they make something like this about how much does it cost? Thanks a lot!

Is it alright to use a blacklight to light indoor herb garden?

          Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

I’m just setting up my indoor herb garden due to frost outdoors but I do not know if it’s good to use the blacklight being ultra violet light and ultra violet can burn. I know I will receive better results with a full spectrum bulb but I don’t have one yet and It’s looking to be an internet order because I cannot find one in the surrounding stores.

Gardening questions….What veggies can I plant in the winter? Herbs for indoor herb gardens?

          Sunday, July 11th, 2010

So, my first garden is coming to a halt, we’ve almost harvested everything, including seed. So now, I need to know what I can plant in the winter, I live in SW VA if that helps you any as far as my climate. I’m sure there are some veggies that can be planted, but I’m not sure what or when to plant. Any ideas?

I’m getting ready to start an indoor herb garden for my, boys who are almost 2 and 4. I think it will be a very rewarding project for them, they loved helping in the garden this year and I think they’ll love to help take care of an indoor garden as well. I’ve ordered some lavender online (2000 seeds for !!), I’m going to buy some chives, basil, thyme maybe, I just don’t know what all to get. Can I even plant lavender indoors? Do I need to have a special light or can I just plant them in pots and keep them in the window seal? Would it work better to have an aquarium or something like that for them? I’d love to have any ideas on what to plant for our herb garden and any suggestions that you might have.
