How to do my wedding reception!?

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

Are you ready to catch on? So, my fiance’s family to start with, are conservative southern baptists and dont allow dancing or music. Not to mention some of them don’t even like me because I have a daughter from a previous marriage. My family is more modern and are fully in agreement and in between we have tons of friends who are super supportive. Essentially, we just want to get married on our own without anyone there but our two witnesses and my daughter and so it will be. We are having a private ceremony at a japanese garden. I thought about how cool it’d be to have a little after dinner party at my mom’s house with japanese inspired decor, but obviously we cannot invite EVERYONE to my mothers house. How would you go about the after-the-fact celebration dinners? There is also a very cool restaurant called Ra Sushi that would be perfect and have a killer happy hour. How would you divide the family and into what events? How would you recommend I celebrate the aftermath with everyone, yet not in a single roof because the crowds just dont mix. Thanks!

    Behavior of Male Betta–Flaring?

    Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

My betta is constantly flaring at me. Put a finger to the glass, or simply lean in to look at him and he’ll swim over to flare at you. Is this a sign that he is feeling good and happy, or is he unhappy and annoyed?

He is in a 10 gallon tank on his own with a few live plants and a Japanese garden accessory in the corner. The tank has a bubble filter and is temp. regulated to stay around 75 degrees.

Need decor ideas for wedding reception; minimalist Zen theme?

    Monday, October 18th, 2010

FH is Taoist and I am Zen Buddhist (Western, so we’re not having a Chinese wedding), and we are trying to incorporate this into our wedding. We are being married by his mentor, a Taoist priest.

We’d like to keep our reception very simple, but very elegant; think ‘Japanese Garden’ – we’re being married at a botanical gardens, so this makes sense.

The colors I was thinking about are cream, brown, and dark green – earth tones.

Not being a terribly decor-oriented person, I have no idea where to start. I have a concept, but as far as actual ideas for centerpieces and such, am lost. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would also not like to spend a lot of money on this.

How to protect wooden floor while building indoor japanese garden?

    Saturday, July 17th, 2010

I am trying to build indoor japanese garden. I cannot use a box since it will be a large area along the wall. Should I cover the area with plastic or rocks and gravel will not harm the floor?
    Thank you very much.
