Off-Grid Self-Watering Container Gardening System: 100% Hands-Free Watering Conversion

Monday, May 21st, 2012

Most “self-watering” planters you see at stores are really only self wicking. You still need to manually add water to the each plant container. With my system we have been adding water to one water container, a 5 gallon bucket. With my plants growing larger and the weather heating up the plants are using more water each day. They are up to five gallons of water a day right now. This video shows how to convert from using a 5 gallon bucket to a garden hose or a 275 gallon ICB tote to water your container garden 100% hands free.

Self-Watering Container Gardening System: Richard’s Garden

    Friday, April 27th, 2012

Richard has added eight containers of various sizes and shapes to his self-watering container garden, one of which is the EarthBox. He used the two EarthBoxes last year but with very little success because he couldn’t keep up with the watering because of the drought and his traveling. Now, by attaching the EarthBoxes to the self-watering system he only has to check one water reservoir and all eight of his containers will get watered. He and his wife like to travel so they could connect the float bucket to a garden hose and be gone for an extended period of time and not worry about watering, fertilizing or weeding their garden.

      Gardening: Birds, Bees & Blueberries

      Saturday, April 7th, 2012

The birds ate all but one of my blueberries last year. They are not getting any this year. Using PVC pipe I put up some inexpensive netting (not bird netting) that keeps the birds out and lets the bees in. Because I painted the PVC black it looks good in the backyard.
