How do I prepare land for a vegetable garden?

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

There is a 12 by 6 lot on the side of my house that I want to turn into a vegetable garden. My parents have agreed to let me do it, but in the past, they’ve used tons of weed killers and its covered by rocks. I’ve read a tons of different stuff online, and I’m not sure which to believe. Any advice is appreciated.

Want to build a small indoor garden, using a plastic tarp layer to protect the floor?

    Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

    Hi,

I really want to build an indoor garden, in a bed of rocks. I need to protect the wooden floor and was thinking of putting a plastic tarp down then fill it up with soil and grow my garden in it. Would this be a problem for drainage after watering plants? I have a heated wooden floor and I do not want to damage it. I cannot think of any other plant to keep my floor protected… Also would a heated floor during winter do any harm? Any advice?

    Thanks in advance!

        Help with Indoor aquarium garden?

        Saturday, February 12th, 2011

I’ve had a biOrb aquarium for the last 2 years and as some of you may know there not the greatest when it comes to keeping fish. I’ve decided to get rid of the present fish, give them to a relative or back to the fish store. drain the tank and dump all the decor.
I’m planning to use it as an indoor garden(mini rainforest) plant mini palm trees and tropical plants that are suitable etc…
I’m also planning on making interesting by adding a staircase for an upstairs, a little pond (if possible), mini houses/people surrounded by exotic plants and rocks etc..

Any ideas on how I can start this off?

I’m planning on doing some research first so if there’s anything that’s vital to know before starting up I’d love to know.

Do I need under soil filter?
Does the soil need to be a certain pH?
        What plants would be suitable?

How can I make or where can I buy mini houses/people/stairs. How can I make an upstairs, or platforms?

        Thank You

          Vegetable Gardening?

          Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

          Hi,
Im starting a new vegie garden from scratch and wondered if anyone could give me any tips on improving the soil, which vegies should go where and ways to get the best possible results.

The patch consists of 3 long rectangular beds. The soil is very sandy, virtually no rocks at all, the soil is a dark grey/blackish colour in some parts and then a redish brown in other parts. At the momment all ive done is dug the soil through and put in some sheep and cow manure.

The vegies im going to grow are pretty much all the basics; lettuce, carrots, corn, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, beans, peas, pumpkin, watermelon, cucumber etc.
          thanks
Forgot to mention that the top bed has shade from about midday on and the 2nd one from has some around 2-3pm-> the 3rd one is full sun.

          Sunday, June 6th, 2010

I have been successful in my gardening but I want to share my knowledge with others. Does anyone know of an online community for indoor gardening? Not greenhouses either. I am not interested in running a greenhouse. Any help on located one of these forums would be most appeaciated.
NO. I avoid drugs, no dope here. I grow aloe vera, Dracaena sanderiana, living rocks, moon cactus, Old Man of the Andes, a variety cacti dish garden, caterpillar cactus,
