Gardening-What flower and vegetable seeds are best to start indoors first?

SPRING is in the air, and I’m getting inspired! My husband got me a little heated/indoor green house, and I want to start growing some seeds. What flowers and fruits/vegetables are easy to start from seed?

I am interested in attracting hummingbirds and butterflies to my yard, so I try to plant as many flowers that attract them.

Also,we have a lot of critters living on /around our property. I might have a vegetable container garden.-so i can bring the plants in at night. What fruits/vegetables grow well in containers?

Thanks for your help! Happy gardening!

hummingbirds love gladiolas, but as a bulb plant, it can be started out side. lots of butterflies like marigolds, and you can start those inside. the only containered fruits ive seen do well are lemons and limes, but the critters would leave those alone anyway. strawberries start we in containers, but need large areas of soil to propagate well<and bunnies love to eat strawberries>. if started in a large enough pot, most types of lettuce do ok.

There are many kinds of flowers and vegetables you can start indoors. Tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, squash are just a few that come to mind. As for flowers, Zenia’s can be started inside and probably many more kids as well. Check with your local nursery to find out what you can start and transplant in your local area. Some plants grow better in one area and will not grow in others.

None – they all prefer to be directly sown in the ground where they’ll grow. You risk damage/shock when transplanting, and death if you don’t harden them off before moving them outside.
